Meet Dr. Louise Rathjen

Dr. Louise Rathjen brings a rich background and a deeply compassionate approach to veterinary care. Born in London, England, she grew up in Hampshire and Surrey before moving to Houston, Texas, and later Bakersfield, California. She completed her undergraduate studies at San Diego State University before earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Western University of Health Sciences School of Veterinary Medicine. Following veterinary school, Dr. Louise completed a prestigious internship in internal medicine and surgery at the renowned VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital.


Holding a special place in her heart for senior pets, Dr. Louise earned a certification in animal hospice and palliative care to provide dedicated, compassionate support for aging dogs and cats. Her practice philosophy centers on holistic wellness, effective pain management, gentle handling, and evaluating each pet as a whole to maximize their quality of life at every stage.

Her mission is to ensure every patient is treated like a "vet’s pet"—receiving the exact same access to gentle, high-quality care that she gives her own animals.


    Dr. Louise lives in Tiburon with her husband, Nick, and their two children, Lily and Luke. Their home is filled with love and pets, including two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Harry and Penny, and three cats: Veronica, Fluffball, and Cutie. She is thrilled to serve and care for the pets and families in the community she loves so dearly.
